The „Pupaza din tei” newspaper |
The "Pupaza din tei" newspaper is the only newspaper from Romania (and probably from the world) totally written and managed by children with the age between 8- 15 years old.
The appearance of this paper it's project of the Association, being used as mean of making public the actions and the projects of children. The newspaper editorial office exists as a contact and social dialog group that realize a real group therapy through playful meetings and actions, using experimental training methods( Training Opportunity Associates) and the particular instruments of publishing a newspaper ( cassette recorder, professional photo camera, computer, etc) within children , for them and for the community.
In this group any initiative of the child could be “born” and “kept” alive. Children can express freely their ideas and views. In this way it will be realized a creation and working “lab” that contributes to their preparing for life. Children can obtain (depending on the abilities and wishes) a statute in the Association that will reflect their options: leading and representing role, acceptance in one of the Association departments: marketing, ecological, social, sport, cultural and artistic or entertainment. In the activity of the editorial office, children are improving their communication skills absolute necessary in human relationship, but also abilities and knowledge for their professional development: media (press, radio, television, etc.), marketing, publicity, informatics (PC operating, editing, programming, etc), and public relation. The newspaper is also a useful guide for teachers and parents, they being able to discover the point of views of the children, views that they can't promote directly.
The History of "Pupaza din tei" newspaper
The first number appeared in October 1999 at Iasi and it was elaborate by a staff of 80 kids, pupils from different schools, familiarized and formed preliminary by volunteers(journalists, psychologists, sociologists, managers) with mass-media and management techniques.
The celebrity on the local area wasn't enough, and from March 2000, editors of this paper started a campaign for financing other subeditorial offices from different departments of the country. Traveling in different departments, with their own money, or with the money obtained from selling newspapers in holidays and week-ends they succeeded. They have contributors in Bacau , Brasov , Botosani, Vrancea, Neamt, Suceava, Vaslui and Bucharest . Because of the absence of funds the newspaper was distributed only by children editors, co-worker volunteers (sponsors, parents' redactors, teachers) and through subscription. This kind of selling was conceived as a mean of populating the newspaper considering the fact that it didn't exist a budget for publicity. As a conclusion, ”Pupaza din tei “newspaper is a success of passion in front of any obstacles: financial, sentimental or moral. The newspaper didn't benefit of any financial support, except from some little sums offered by the Board of Department Iasi and the Youth and Sport Committee of Department Iasi(DJTS). Children had resisted to the sentimental “blackmails” of their parents: “I don't want to activate in this association unless you have only the best grades” and teachers:” Isn't the school journal good enough for you ?”
